Revamp from August 2016
Lately, I’ve been collaborating a lot with Etsy shops in the United States to try to further their businesses. I like knowing that I can take part in helping someone grow their small business, so the owner of Simple Soap and Gifts on Etsy was kind enough to send me a lovely PR package to help give her shop a little more exposure. By now, you know I love writing reviews, so I hope you enjoy them too! Let’s dig in..
This Peppermint Hot Chocolate Soap contains avocado oil, cocoa butter, coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, water, sodium hydroxide, cocoa powder, peppermint oil, and tea tree oil. I have zero complaints about the ingredients in this soap. To be honest, I’m pretty impressed with the amount of oils the seller used to make this. Plus, when you’re using something with so many oils in it, you can definitely feel it.
Speaking of feeling it, let’s get into how the Peppermint Hot Chocolate Soap from Simple Soap and Gifts actually performed. This soap lathers wonderfully, which I was really surprised to see. Some people don’t like their natural soaps to have a lather, but I prefer it. It gives me some peace of mind knowing that it’s “working.” On top of lathering really well, it lasts forever. I’ve been using nothing but this soap for over a week now and I still have about half of the bar left. This says a lot, because I only got sent a sample size, which is the same size as the seller’s Custom Soap Favors on Etsy (1.35oz).
This soap smells like traditional peppermint hot chocolate – quite a bit of mint and a strong hint of cocoa. I have zero complaints in the smell department. It smells wonderful while you’re washing with it, and a light scent of cocoa lingers on your skin for a few hours after you’ve finished showering. It’s nothing that would clash with any perfumes and I actually like it quite a bit. For someone who’s all about Christmas like I am, the smell is pretty comforting.
Now, there is a warning label on the back of this soap. Don’t freak out; I just wanted to point it out because I actually really appreciate it. The warning says,“Do not use during pregnancy.” Why is that, you may ask? Peppermint oil can cause menstruation, which you definitely wouldn’t want if you’re expecting. A lot of people, including myself, don’t (or didn’t, in my case) know that so I find that super thoughtful and it makes me appreciate this soap and this Etsy shop that much more.
Overall, I would definitely purchase from Simple Soap and Gifts in the future. As of right now, most of the listings on the Etsy shop are more geared towards bigger orders (like favors or bulk deals), but I think it’s well worth it. If you’re timid about placing a bigger order on Etsy to start, I’m sure you can work something out with the seller, as she’s been more than accommodating with me. There is also a listing for one bar of handmade, all natural soap, which you can find here, and there are plenty of scents to choose from.
At the time that I wrote the original review above, I hadn’t had a chance to finish all of the products I was given (as they do last a surprisingly long time). Now that I’ve had the chance to get the full effect of the product, I’d like to tell you about it full disclosure style.
So lets get to the questions: Would I purchase? No. Why? I don’t really have a need for soap favors/large orders, and I haven’t felt myself missing this soap. Absolutely nothing against this Etsy shop, but I’m not going to purchase something I can live without. However, I would still recommend this shop if you’re in the market for soap favors for a shower, etc. I think the prices are great and the products are above and beyond typical “hotel soap” type products.
